A Faith Story by Patti Anderson
Father Nate’s sermon on Sunday had me thinking about who my Christian families are. As I was visiting Jimmie and his fellow residents at Briarcliff Health& Rehabilitation Center, it dawned on me that I actually have twoChristian families.
My first family is all of you at St. Paul’s. You have walked with me through very difficult times over the last few years. I know that I am never alone when it comes to facing those challenges.
My second family is every resident and staff member at Briarcliff. The joy they bring me whenever I am with them is such a blessing. On Sunday, as I was sitting at Jimmie’s table in the dining room at lunchtime,God showed me that this, too, is family. I had brought a stress ball to give to the staff for the residents to enjoy during their activity time, but instead ended up playing table tennis with Jimmie and his table buddies. The laughter and smiles I received from them were priceless. One of Jimmie’s table buddies usually has a frown on his face, but yesterday was the first time I saw him smile—and he was truly enjoying himself while playing table tennis with me.
Just sitting and visiting with Jimmie’s fellow residents brings so much joy into my life.
